Family vacation packing list

Keep personal clothing counts separate from shared gear. This starting plan is six nights in a warm climate for two adults and two children, with laundry every three days. Replace the example names before you start.

This example has its own saved list. Your main trip stays separate.

The list updates as you change the trip. Ticks, your own items, renamed items and quantities you typed are kept. Climate is your choice; no weather service is called.

Packing lists for different trips

Each example opens a complete editable list with its own saved changes. Your main list stays on the home page.

Read “each” before multiplying the list

A quantity marked each applies to every traveler, including a child. With four people, four tops each means sixteen tops in total. Assign family-only items to one named traveler so you do not accidentally pack a shared charger or snack supply four times.

Use the traveler filter to check one person's responsibilities. The rule engine does not know ages or clothing sizes. Rename or remove rows that do not suit a particular child.

Plan spare clothes around the journey

The kids preset adds spare child outfits, a comfort item and snacks for the journey. Assign those rows to the relevant child or the adult carrying the shared bag. The spare outfit rule is capped at seven, so review it for infants or a longer trip.

Laundry every three days starts ordinary clothing at four sets each. A beach preset also adds two swimwear items each: one to wear and one to dry. Add age-specific items such as nappies, feeding equipment or a car seat yourself when needed.

Give return checks to a person

Before the return journey, use the HOME column while each person repacks. One adult can check shared charging points and travel documents while another checks the bathroom and the children's sleeping area.

This page has its own saved checklist. The main packing list and other trip examples keep their own lists, so exploring this family plan does not replace your existing trip.

The second check: coming home

Most packing lists stop at the front door. The things people lose are left on the way back: a charger still in the wall, a passport in the room safe, a child’s favourite toy under the bed.

Switch the board to Coming home before you check out. The count changes to items back in the bag, and the filter Still to bring home hides everything already done. On paper, the HOME column does the same job.

  1. Sockets phone, laptop and camera chargers, adapters
  2. Safe and drawers passports, cash, cards, jewellery
  3. Bathroom toothbrush, razor, medication, glasses
  4. Hooks and wardrobe jackets, swimwear left to dry
  5. Under and behind the bed, the sofa, the car seats

About this trip preset

Does the tool know my children’s ages?

No. The family preset is a starting point. Assign child-only rows and add or remove age-specific items yourself.

Packing list questions

How many outfits should I pack?

Count days away as nights plus one. Without laundry, pack one top, one pair of underwear and one pair of socks per day. If you can wash clothes, pack one wash cycle plus one spare. This tool caps daily clothing at 7 tops and 10 pairs of underwear and socks for carry-on or backpack trips, and 14 for a checked bag.

Does this use a live weather forecast?

No. Choose the expected climate yourself; the tool does not call a weather service.

Can I make a packing list for two travelers?

Yes. Enter up to six names. Items set to Everyone mean one of that quantity for each person; you can assign any item to one traveler and filter the list by person.

Why are there two checkboxes for each item?

OUT is ticked while packing before departure. HOME is ticked while repacking for the return, so chargers, documents and clothes left in a room are noticed before you leave.

What happens to my edits when I change the trip?

The list updates straight away. Your ticks, renamed items, owners, quantities you typed yourself, custom items and removed items are kept. The status line lists what was added or dropped.

Where is my list saved?

In this browser's local storage. Nothing is uploaded. Clearing site data removes it, so print or export a copy you want to keep.
