Packing list generator / Winter travel packing list
Winter travel packing list
Build around layers you can reuse. This four-night cold-weather plan starts with a checked bag and adds a warm coat, thermal layers, gloves and a hat. It is a general winter trip, not a specialist expedition list.
This example has its own saved list. Your main trip stays separate.

Separate reusable layers from daily clothing
A warm coat starts at one per traveler. Thermal layers use half the daily clothing count rounded up, capped at three. For five days without laundry that is three thermal layers, alongside five daily clothing sets.
Think about your accommodation, drying facilities and planned activity. A layer worn while walking around a city may have different needs from one worn during strenuous outdoor activity. Adjust the counts instead of treating the preset as an instruction.
Keep this distinct from a ski or mountain equipment list
This preset adds gloves and a warm hat but does not automatically add ski equipment, specialist boots or safety equipment. Add the items appropriate to the activities you have actually booked.
For severe weather or remote travel, obtain destination-specific advice. The tool uses the cold climate selection, not live temperature data or a risk assessment.
Check small warm accessories before the return
Hats and gloves are easy to leave in coat pockets, hotel wardrobes or drying areas. Use HOME as you put each item back, and check chargers before you unplug the last device.
If you are traveling carry-on, change the luggage selection and review the clothing caps. The generator counts pieces but does not calculate their volume or weight.

Most packing lists stop at the front door. The things people lose are left on the way back: a charger still in the wall, a passport in the room safe, a child’s favourite toy under the bed.
Switch the board to Coming home before you check out. The count changes to items back in the bag, and the filter Still to bring home hides everything already done. On paper, the HOME column does the same job.
- Sockets phone, laptop and camera chargers, adapters
- Safe and drawers passports, cash, cards, jewellery
- Bathroom toothbrush, razor, medication, glasses
- Hooks and wardrobe jackets, swimwear left to dry
- Under and behind the bed, the sofa, the car seats
About this trip preset
Is this a complete ski packing list?
No. It is a general cold-weather preset. Add sport-specific clothing, equipment and destination guidance for your activity.
Packing list questions
How many outfits should I pack?
Count days away as nights plus one. Without laundry, pack one top, one pair of underwear and one pair of socks per day. If you can wash clothes, pack one wash cycle plus one spare. This tool caps daily clothing at 7 tops and 10 pairs of underwear and socks for carry-on or backpack trips, and 14 for a checked bag.
Does this use a live weather forecast?
No. Choose the expected climate yourself; the tool does not call a weather service.
Can I make a packing list for two travelers?
Yes. Enter up to six names. Items set to Everyone mean one of that quantity for each person; you can assign any item to one traveler and filter the list by person.
Why are there two checkboxes for each item?
OUT is ticked while packing before departure. HOME is ticked while repacking for the return, so chargers, documents and clothes left in a room are noticed before you leave.
What happens to my edits when I change the trip?
The list updates straight away. Your ticks, renamed items, owners, quantities you typed yourself, custom items and removed items are kept. The status line lists what was added or dropped.
Where is my list saved?
In this browser's local storage. Nothing is uploaded. Clearing site data removes it, so print or export a copy you want to keep.
